MODEL OF A HARBOUR TUG TO 1:25 SCALE
FITTINGS SET AND POWER SET INCLUDED IN THE KIT
In
1949 a large Hamburg shipping company granted the JOHANN OELKERS dockyard
the contract to build one of the last great steam-driven tugs, and in 1952
the 29.8 m long tug ēJANē was delivered to the shipping company. It was
employed to assist ocean-going ships of more than 20.000 BRT as well as
for tug duties in the North and Baltic Seas.
Before
we even started the development phase of our model of the ēJanē we decided
to create a model which could be built by the advanced beginner as well
as by the specialist marine modeller. Our model of this harbour tug is
the first to incorporate a number of new methods of manufacture, developed
by us in-house. For example, all the superstructure and deck components
are supplied in the form of CNC-machined plastic parts instead of the conventional
die-cut sheets. These precision parts interlock in such a way that mistakes
are virtually impossible. As a result you can check the exact fit of individual
sub-assemblies even before applying the glue. The wheel stand and bridge
are clad in wood veneer to give the model its characteristic old-time character.
The harbour tug is based on a large, rigid GRP hull which provides ample
space for lead/acid batteries of generous capacity, all the electronic
components of the RC system and the mechanical components of the auxiliary
working systems.
The hull and deck are designed to eliminate the necessity of bulkheads.
The RC components, batteries and motor are mounted on CNC-machined plastic
supports. The kit contents for this model also include a complete fittings
set, the Power 1000 electric motor, all the wood required for the bridge
cladding and a boatstand.
