Smit Singapore

General.
The Smit Singapore is a 22.000 ihp ocean-going multi-purpose tug and has been designed to perform towages with heavy objects over long distances for the offshore industry, for salvage assistance to ships in distress and to carry out anchor-handling operations. The name is recently (1998) changed in Smitwijs Singapore.

Propulsion

The propulsion machinery consists of two Stork-Werkspoor TM 410 turbocharged, four stroke, single acting, unidirectional diesel engines. Each engine drives a fourblade variable pitch propeller turning in a fixed nozzle. The machinery may be remotely controlled from the bridge deck as well as from an airconditioned control room in the engine room.

Manoeuvrability

The twinscrew-arrangment combined with two rudders and a powerful 800 hp bow-thruster guarantees excellent manoeuvrability. The wheelhouse is situated amidships which allows an excellent view over the aftdeck as well as forward, for bridge controlled manoeuvring, which is possible from four positions.
